Last newsletter we started talking about the fact that God is building His Church. In Part 2, we continue along this theme.
Where to start:
When we establish some thing like a business or an organisation we must ask ourselves a very basic question. “What is the purpose of what we are doing”?
If you don’t have purpose (a reason or cause) you will never work with passion. I have discovered over the years that purpose without passion will go no where, passion without purpose will frustrate, but when we combine passion with purpose we can achieve anything.
Every person born on this earth is born with a purpose and a God given destiny.
God requires from all of us that we be good stewards of the calling and gifting that is on our lives. We see in the story of the talents that although it uses money as the focus the real meaning is looking after what the master (God) entrusts to us. This, I believe, is referring to the gifts, talents and abilities that are unique to us as an individual as well as the church, its message and purpose.
So what is the purpose of Church?
When we establish a business we set a mission statement and a plan around that mission and ask all the right questions so that the business can flourish and prosper, then why not God’s business. We should ask, the what how questions
What do I want to achieve, and how am I going to do it?
The church has been established with a function and purpose. That function is:
1. To take people to their God given destiny.
2. To show who God is through His nature and Character being manifest
3. To feed, train, support, encourage, guide, love, nurture, fellowship and be a supportive, functional family
Our destiny is tied up in the local church or the house of God. This is where God will develop us for the work of ministry and the destiny that He has for us.
a. To get people saved
b. Taught
c. Trained
d. Loved
e. Equipped
f. Put on the path of their destiny
God has established a team in the church as well as hands on training program.
Key Verse:
Ephesians 4:11-16
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith (belief and understanding) and of the knowledge (know intimately through use) of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; (He had the spirit without measure) that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head - Christ - from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
God not only set a purpose for church but also set in place those gifts required to set up and train the church for it’s purpose as well as the gifts within the church to allow it to operate fully and functionally as He requires it to operate.
The purpose of the Five Fold Ministry:
1. To teach and train the Saints for the work of the ministry
2. To hear the voice and direction of God and relay it to the people
3. To take and lay out the vision that God has given and show the people how to achieve it
The purpose of the vision:
Is to give the people a plan to work with and plug into so they may learn and grow in their God given work and destiny.
Habakkuk 2:2
And Jehovah answered me and said, “Write the vision, and make it plain on the tablets, that he who reads it may run”.
Habakkuk was the spiritual leader of his people and God spoke to him and said write the vision down so the people might run with it.
The purpose of the people:
a. To find and fulfil their destiny
b. To do the work of ministry (meeting the needs of the people)
c. Allow themselves to be taught and trained (through service in ministry)
d. To make church work (to fulfil it’s mission)
Colossians 3:22 – 24 Amplified
Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [and not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [real] reward. [The One Whom] you are actually serving [is] the Lord Christ (the Messiah).
What ever you do in life you are to see it as working for the Lord, not for man. See your service in the house of God not just as a sowing into the house but also a seed sown toward your harvest (destiny).
Every area that we sow into in the kingdom has a glorious reward.
The church is 50% us the people and 50% the building or assembly place.
If we will get involved in building His house He will get involved in building ours His Business our business etc! Family – Finance - Vision.
There is a journey toward maturity that we are all to go on. The people in the house of God lead this journey. We are to go on that journey with the guides that God has provided for us in Ephesians 4:11 and having walked on the road we are called to lead others (the great commission) and make disciples.
This, if done in obedience to God, will bring great reward. We in fact have an inheritance that God has set aside for us, but we must be partakers of the will of God to receive the blessing or inheritance of God.
